MOST Health Services' physicians will consider the following factors when determining whether or not a worker will be physically and psychologically able to wear a specific respiratory protective device:
- The employee's health (physical and mental)
- The respirator (type, weight, physiologic effects)
- The circumstances in which the employee will wear the respirator
- The work conditions (environment, workload, duration)
|
Based on the above, an employee may be placed in one of three categories. (1) full use, (2) restricted use (excluding SCBA's and strenuous work), or (3) medically unfit for use of general industrial respirators. After completion of the medical evaluation program, an individual worker's respirator medical clearance statement will be signed and issued by a physician.
-There is a change in workplace conditions (physical work effort, protective clothing, temperature) that may result in substantial increase in the physiological burden placed on the employee
MOST Health Services Inc. follows OSHA’s new standard, and also offers more comprehensive medical examinations as described in the guidelines recommended by ANSI Z 88.6, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and the American Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. These recommended guidelines identify responsibilities of the physician in determining the employee’s ability to use a respirator. |
